The Skin Edit by Melissa Jordan
One laser facial. Multiple skin concerns. A smarter approach to skin rejuvenation.
Brown spots. Uneven tone. Redness. Fine lines. Enlarged pores. Skin that simply doesn't look as bright or firm as it used to.
The 5D Laser Facial at The Skin Edit is designed to address multiple signs of skin aging and sun damage in one customized treatment.
Using the advanced Cynosure Elite iQ™ dual-wavelength laser platform, the treatment works at different levels of the skin to target visible pigmentation and vascular concerns while supporting collagen renewal and improving overall skin quality.
No dramatic promises. No changing your face. Just smarter technology, thoughtfully selected for what your skin actually needs.
The Treatment
A 5D Laser Facial is a non-invasive laser skin rejuvenation treatment designed to improve several dimensions of skin health rather than focusing on one isolated concern.
At The Skin Edit, treatment is performed using Cynosure Elite iQ™ technology, which combines two proven laser wavelengths:
755 nm Alexandrite
Particularly useful for targeting melanin and visible pigmentation.
1064 nm Nd:YAG
Penetrates more deeply and can be used for vascular concerns and skin rejuvenation.
Instead of treating every face with the same settings, the wavelength, energy and treatment parameters can be selected according to your skin type, pigmentation and individual concerns.
Because let's face it — your skin doesn't have just one layer, one concern or one setting.
The Name
The term 5D describes the multi-dimensional approach to facial rejuvenation rather than five separate lasers. The goal is to look at your skin as a whole — pigmentation, redness, texture, firmness and overall clarity — and create a treatment strategy that addresses several of those concerns together.
1. Pigmentation
Laser energy can selectively target melanin responsible for visible brown spots and areas of sun damage. Over time, treated pigmentation may darken temporarily before gradually fading as the skin naturally renews itself.
2. Redness + Vascular Concerns
The Nd:YAG wavelength can target hemoglobin within certain visible blood vessels, making it useful for selected vascular concerns and facial redness.
3. Skin Texture
Laser rejuvenation can help improve the appearance of uneven texture and contribute to smoother-looking skin.
4. Collagen Support
Controlled laser energy creates heat within targeted tissue. That thermal response can stimulate the skin's natural repair processes and support collagen remodeling over time. We're encouraging your skin to do more of the work itself.
5. Overall Skin Quality
Pigmentation, redness, texture and collagen don't exist independently. By addressing several contributors to aging-looking skin, the goal is an overall complexion that appears clearer, smoother, brighter and more refreshed.
Your treatment will depend on your individual skin assessment, but an Elite iQ laser facial may be used to improve the appearance of:
It can be particularly appealing when you look in the mirror and can't identify one major problem — you just know your skin doesn't look as clear, even or vibrant as it once did.
That's often not one problem. It's accumulated sun exposure, pigment changes, vascular changes and changes in collagen happening together.
The Technology
Elite iQ is a professional dual-wavelength aesthetic laser system combining 755 nm Alexandrite and 1064 nm Nd:YAG technology. Having two wavelengths gives the practitioner greater flexibility because different targets within the skin respond differently to laser energy.
Melanin absorbs certain wavelengths. Hemoglobin responds to others. Deeper tissue requires different treatment parameters than superficial pigmentation.
That's why good laser treatment isn't simply about having a powerful machine. It's about choosing the right energy for the right skin at the right time.
One of the features we particularly like about the Elite iQ system is its Skintel™ Melanin Reader. Instead of relying entirely on visual assessment, Skintel objectively measures the amount of melanin in the skin. That information can help guide treatment settings and provide another layer of personalization and safety — especially because melanin levels can change with sun exposure and tanning.
At The Skin Edit, technology doesn't replace professional assessment. It gives us better information to work with.
Most people describe the treatment as a series of quick warm snaps or a light elastic-band sensation against the skin. You may notice warmth as the treatment progresses, but the Elite iQ platform incorporates skin-cooling technology to improve comfort and protect the skin's surface during treatment. Treatment time varies according to the areas being treated and your customized protocol.
One of the attractions of a 5D Laser Facial is that downtime is generally minimal compared with more aggressive resurfacing treatments. Immediately afterward, your skin may appear:
When pigmentation is specifically targeted, some spots can initially become darker before gradually fading. Your exact response will depend on your skin, the concerns being treated and the treatment settings used. We will provide appropriate aftercare instructions based on your treatment.
And yes — SPF becomes non-negotiable. Your freshly treated skin and unnecessary UV exposure are not friends.
Some clients notice their skin looking brighter or more refreshed relatively quickly, while changes involving pigmentation, vascular concerns and collagen remodeling develop more gradually.
Collagen isn't instant. Your skin needs time to respond, repair and remodel. That means improvement may continue to develop in the weeks following treatment. The number of sessions needed will depend on your skin, treatment goals and the concerns we're addressing. Some people may benefit from a treatment series followed by periodic maintenance rather than relying on a single appointment.
Your consultation is where we determine what actually makes sense for your skin.
A traditional facial primarily works at the surface of the skin through cleansing, exfoliation, hydration and topical products. A laser facial works differently.
Laser energy can selectively target chromophores such as melanin and hemoglobin and deliver controlled thermal energy into the skin. That makes laser rejuvenation an option when we're trying to address concerns that skincare and conventional facials alone may not significantly change.
We love a good facial. We just don't expect moisturizer to behave like a laser.
Both treatments can play valuable roles in a skin rejuvenation plan, but they work very differently.
5D Laser Facial
Uses targeted light and thermal energy and may be particularly useful when pigmentation, redness, sun damage and overall skin clarity are priorities.
Microneedling
Creates controlled micro-injuries that trigger the skin's wound-healing response and is often selected when texture, acne scarring and collagen remodeling are primary concerns.
RF Microneedling
Combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy delivered below the skin's surface and may be chosen when deeper collagen remodeling, texture and skin firmness are priorities.
There isn't one treatment that is automatically "better." There is a treatment that makes more sense for your skin and your goals. Sometimes that means laser. Sometimes microneedling. Sometimes a thoughtfully planned combination over time. That's exactly why we start with an assessment.
You may be a good candidate if you're bothered by sun damage, uneven pigmentation, redness, visible vessels, dullness, uneven texture or early signs of skin aging and want a non-surgical treatment with relatively little downtime.
Laser treatment isn't appropriate for everyone. Your medical history, medications, recent sun exposure, tanning, active skin conditions and other factors need to be considered before treatment. This is also why we don't believe in choosing a laser treatment simply because it's trending on social media.
We treat the skin in front of us.
At The Skin Edit, we're not interested in chasing every new treatment trend. We're interested in understanding your skin.
Your consultation considers what you see, what we see, your skin history and what you're hoping to improve. From there, we can determine whether a 5D Laser Facial, microneedling, RF microneedling or another treatment approach makes the most sense.
Because better skin isn't about doing everything. It's about doing the right things, in the right order, for your skin.
